Soil and Groundwater Remediation

KLOZUR® webinars

Our KLOZUR® webinars provide an overview of the technical effects and various applications of these persulfates, and cover a variety of topics on the science behind some of today's most innovative remediation treatments.

In 2015 Dr. Brant Smith presented the webinar “Design Considerations for Activated KLOZUR® Persulfate Field Applications”. Much has changed since then including the release of KLOZUR® KP and KLOZUR® One, the evolution of soil mixing as an application method, and the rise of the combined remedy of ISCO-ISS. Now in 2023, Dr. Smith updated this presentation to discuss the selection process between these different KLOZUR® technologies, oxidant mass estimation techniques, methods to establish contact with the oxidant and contaminant mass in the subsurface and other common design considerations. Please watch this live webinar followed by a Q&A session.

After successful application of activated KLOZUR® persulfate, a number of geochemical changes can be expected, resulting in a clear geochemical fingerprint. Monitoring these parameters can therefore provide important information on performance. During the webinar, an overview of the recommended monitoring parameters for persulfate will be provided and how they can be used to gain a better understanding of an application and site. Performance data from various ISCO project sites will be discussed and reviewed in relation to geochemical response.

Dr. Brant Smith will review the technical fundamentals of KLOZUR® CR and several successful case studies. KLOZUR® CR, or combined remedy, is a blend of KLOZUR® SP and PermeOx® Ultra. This create the potential for three potential remediation pathways from a single application including hydrogen peroxide and alkaline activation of the KLOZUR® SP, aerobic bioremediation and possibly anaerobic oxidation using sulfate as the electron acceptor. The fundamental chemistry behind KLOZUR® CR will be discussed.

Drew Baird and Chapman Ross of FRx and Brant Smith of Evonik will present the use of controlled hydraulic fracturing for the placement of KLOZUR® KP slurry. The team shows the results of applying the product using solid suspensions to remediate a number of common contaminants. Practical experience underpins the results from the application of KLOZUR® KP.

Dr. Smith discusses the key characteristics that differentiate subsurface treatment of 1,4-dioxane compared to many other common contaminants of concern. KLOZUR® is the product of choice when it comes to contamination by 1,4-dioxane which is the case at many sites.

KLOZUR® KP is ideal for treating highly soluble contaminants in the aqueous phase, such as 1,4-dioxane, or for treating contaminants in low permeability soils that persist for extended periods of time.

We are introducing KLOZUR® One, a fully soluble all-in-one product suitable for treating highly contaminated source areas or plumes. The product simplifies the application of KLOZUR® activated persulfate in the field, making it even easier.

Dr. Brant Smith of Evonik, Professor Dan Cassidy of Western Michigan University, and Tom Simpkin and Mike Perlmutter of CH2M will present strategies using in situ mixing to apply alkaline activated persulfate.

Dr. Brant Smith introduces KLOZUR® KP, a new addition to our KLOZUR® product portfolio of powerful oxidants.

Monitoring programs for KLOZUR® persulfate applications: information needed before, during and after an application

Dr. Brant Smith discusses the monitoring programs necessary for a remedial approach using KLOZUR® persulfate, as well as best practices for assessing its effectiveness.

Dr. Brant Smith discusses critical elements for designing an activated KLOZUR® persulfate field application, including critical design parameters, scaling up bench scale results and different methods used to estimate the dose of oxidant and activator.

Dr. Brant Smith provides an overview of critical aspects of using alkali-activated KLOZUR® persulfate in the field and the basic chemical properties of alkali-activated persulfate, as well as case studies of successful destruction of contaminants under field conditions ranging from carbon tetrachloride to petroleum hydrocarbons.

Dr. Brant Smith and Chris Rob of Geosyntec will present the fundamentals of proven in-situ solidification and stabilization technologies combined with in situ chemical oxidation to achieve a variety of remediation goals in a single application. With KLOZUR® SP, less binder material is needed to achieve ISS goals.
