Evonik going through intense testing of the AVITALIS™ Ballast Water Treatment System for IMO and USCG TA

On March 21, 2016, Evonik has submitted a letter of intent (LOI) to the United States Coast Guard (USCG) to officially announce their intention to apply for US Coast Guard Type Approval of the AVITALIS™ Ballast Water Treatment System (BWTS).

According to the LOI, Evonik has selected DNV GL as the independent laboratory (IL) to oversee and supervise the test program in accordance to the requirements in USCG CFR § 162.060.
Land-based and shipboard testing are planned for 2016 so that the submission of the full application package to apply for US Coast Guard Type Approval is planned to be submitted by the first half of 2017.
At the same time, shipboard testing for the IMO Type Approval has started on the feeder container vessel MV Helmut of the Reederei Jens & Waller. HYTECON GmbH has been contracted for shipboard testing of the system. IMO Type Approval by the German authority BSH (Federal Maritime and Hydrographic Agency) of the AVITALISTM BWTS is anticipated for the first half of 2017.
The AVITALISTM BWTS will be manufactured and marketed exclusively by Evonik’s partner TeamTec AS, Norway. Evonik will focus on the production and supply of PERACLEAN® Ocean, the disinfectant utilized with the AVITALISTM BWTS.
