Evonik and Pingmei Shenma sign hydrogen peroxide licensing agreement in China
- Shenma to build 200kta H2O2 plant in Pingdingshan, Henan Province, using Evonik’s technology
- State-of-the-art technology by Evonik meets highest national requirements for safety
- New megaplant to supply H2O2 for Shenma’s 600kta caprolactam production facility
Pingdingshan, China. Evonik will license its hydrogen peroxide (H2O2) production technology to China Pingmei Shenma Group Nylon Technology (Shenma) to build an H2O2 megaplant with an annual capacity of 200 kilotons in Pingdingshan, Henan Province. The H2O2 produced in the new plant will be captive-used for Shenma’s own production of caprolactam – a key precursor for nylon 6. The signing was celebrated on March 5, 2025, in Pingdingshan. Startup of the H2O2 megaplant is expected in 2026.
Shenma is a major player in the Chinese chemical fiber industry, covering the entire value chain for nylon 6 and nylon 66. The company plans to expand its caprolactam production capacity to 600 kilotons per year by 2026. By simultaneously upgrading its H2O2 production technology and boosting on-site capacity, Shenma will benefit from supply security and guaranteed quality for its caprolactam production. And the selection of Evonik’s fluidized-bed technology will enable Shenma to fulfill the most stringent new national requirements for process safety in H2O2 production.
Michael Träxler, head of Evonik’s Active Oxygens business line, stated, “As a technology leader in H2O2, we are very pleased to be Shenma’s first choice as a licensing partner. Evonik offers easy-to-operate and safe techology, fast delivery, and long-term partnership – factors which are of great value to, and very much appreciated by, our customers.”
“We are delighted to seize this collaboration opportunity to establish a long-term partnership with Evonik,” stated Li Benbin, Deputy General Manager of Pingmei Shenma Group & Chairman of Shenma Industrial Co., Ltd. “Evonik’s safe and efficient hydrogen peroxide production technology will help Shenma enhance the production efficiency and product quality across our nylon value chain. This will enable us to better serve the market demands and meet our customers' expectations for high-quality products.”
“This partnership represents a milestone in our hydrogen peroxide business in China and underscores our long-term commitment to the Chinese market,” said Fuliang Xia, president of Evonik Greater China. “We look forward to exploring more collaboration areas on the basis of this partnership, continuing to achieve greater growth and success together.”
The agreement with Shenma marks Evonik’s third licensing project for hydrogen peroxide production in China. Most recently, Fuhua Tongda Chemicals Company began construction on a 200kta H2O2 plant based on Evonik technology in Leshan, Sichuan Province, in 2024.
