Case Studies
METAFIX® Reagents
Over the years, we have successfully treated thousands of sites with hazardous contaminants around the globe. METAFIX® is capable of treating mixed wastewater containing several heavy metals and chlorinated solvents. Our case studies show examples of how METAFIX® Reagents can cost-effectively treat heavy metals and chlorinated solvents at even the most challenging sites. EHC® Metals Reagent is now part of the METAFIX® portfolio.
Mercury Treatment to Non-Detect Levels at a Former Industrial Site with METAFIX® Reagents
METAFIX®was applied at various dosages (0.5%, 1.0%, and 2.0% w/w) to compare field performance of mercury stabilization via SPLP testing.
Treatability Study – METAFIX® Reagents Applied to Heavily Contaminated Soils for the Stabilization of Chromium (VI)
A lab treatability study was conducted to determine the optimal METAFIX® Reagents formulation and dosing rate to treat the highly contaminated soil samples.
Stabilization of Multiple Metals with use of METAFIX® Reagents at an Agricultural Site
A lab treatability study was conducted to determine the optimal METAFIX® reagent formulation and dosing rate to treat the four heavy metals of concern: As, Cd, Pb, and Zn.
Evaluation of METAFIX® Reagent Performance by Two Test Methods on Soils Heavily Contaminated with Arsenic
A lab treatability study was conducted to determine the optimal METAFIX® reagent formulation and dosing rate to treat the highly contaminated soil samples with a total arsenic concentration of 21,700 mg/kg.
Co-Treatment of TCE and Chromium with EHC® Metals to Below Detection Limit in Groundwater
EHC® Metals Reagent is now a part of the METAFIX® portfolio of customizable reagents. EHC® Metals effectively treated TCE and immobilized Cr(VI) from groundwater to below detection limits at a manufacturing facility in Washington state.
EHC® Metals Injection for Lead Treatment at a Former Battery Recycling Facility in Brazil
EHC® Metals Reagent is now a part of the METAFIX® portfolio of customizable reagents. EHC® Metals Reagent has been shown to effectively immobilize lead (Pb) from groundwater at a former battery recycling facility in Brazil.
METAFIX® PRB Prevents Migration of Heavy Metals into an Adjacent River and Exceeds Remedial Goals
The main contaminant of concern, aluminum, has decreased from a baseline concentration of 1,530 μg/L to 224 μg/L after ten months, which is well below the remedial goal of 750 μg/L. Significant reductions also have been observed in dissolved arsenic and copper downgradient from the PRB.
Remediation of a Historic Chrome Residue Stockpile Site to Below Remedial Goals
An initial treatability test followed by field application demonstrated that a low dose of METAFIX® was successful in treating soils highly contaminated with chromium to below a stringent remedial goal of <1 mg/kg.
