Evonik is member of CEFIC
European Chemical Industry Council
CEFIC, the European Chemical Industry Council, is both the forum and the voice of the European chemical industry. It represents, directly or indirectly, about 40,000 large, medium and small chemical companies. As a leading manufacturer, Evonik is active member within this group.
CEFIC was incorporated in 1972 as an international association with scientific objectives. As an umbrella organization, CEFIC has established about 100 sector groups. One of these groups is the Peroxygens Sector Group.
Hydrogen peroxide is a versatile substance that has many uses, from personal care products such as hair and teeth bleaching, to industrial applications like whitening cellulose pulp or textile fibers. It is also used as a biocide in the food and beverage industry, as pharmaceutical antiseptic or as a formulation ingredient in cleaning and detergent products. In the wrong hands, hydrogen peroxide could be misused to manufacture home-made explosive devices. Producers have cooperated and supported regulators for many years to prevent hydrogen peroxide from being used for illicit purposes. In order to further increase awareness along the entire supply chain, we have developed a training tool explaining the obligations in a video to comply with the law and help safeguard the public.
